SOURAV asked in Science

what happens to a strength of a magnet and no. of field ...

When a magnet is cut horizontally or vertically or in any other way, each and every pieces of the magnet will have its individual North pole and South pole. Thus the total number of poles will increase.
Magnetic properties of a magnet are due to the alignment of electrons in a particular direction. When a magnet is cut into two halves the number of electrons in total and in a particular direction become less than the initial so the magnetic field of a magnet becomes less.
If we cut the bar magnet horizontally then area of the pole decreases hence pole strength decreases therefore, strength of the magnetic field decreases. Hence, the number of magnetic field lines decreases.
If we cut the bar magnet vertically then area of the magnet remains same, pole strength of the magnet remains same, hence no effect on the magnetic field strength and hence no change in magnetic field lines
