Answer:

Changing states of matter and energy

A block of ice is solid water. When heat (a form of energy) is added, the ice melts into liquid water. It has reached its melting point – 0°C. Continue to apply heat, and the water will turn into water vapour, which is water in its gaseous state.

Temperature increases on both conversion.

  • Ice is solid state of water. It needs to absorb heat in order to convert into liquid state which is water.
  • Further absorption of heat converts liquid state of water to gaseous form of water namely vapour.
  • First process is known as melting and second process is known as vaporization.
  • As the heat is absorbed, temperature increases.
