◆ When a liquid is heated, it turns to its GASEOUS STATE (or converted into vapour).

◆ The moving particles in a gas collide with each other and also with the walls of the container and due to these collisions, Gases exert pressure on the walls of the container.

◆ a) 100℃ = 100+273 = 373 K

b) -100℃ = -100 + 273 = 173 K

◆ Density of a substance is the mass of the substance per unit its volume, or simply it is the ratio of the mass of the substance to the volume occupied by that substance.

◆ 1] The particles of matter are always in random motion.
2] The kinetic energy of the particles of matter increases with the increase in temperature.
3] The particles of matter may collide against each other, creating a particular amount of pressure on the colliding surface.

◆ Evaporation of water from the surface.

◆ Sublimation

◆ Evaporation
◆ Latent heat of vaporization is the amount of heat required by a substance to get vaporised, i.e., to get converted into gaseous state. For example, the latent heat of vaporization of water is 2268 J/g or 540 Cal/g.

◆ During the change of state of any substance, the average kinetic energy of its particles remain constant and thus the temperature also remains constant since it is directly proportional to the kinetic energy of those particles.

◆ Sublimation is a process in which a solid directly changes into vapour without changing into liquid on heating the solid substance.
Example :-
1)Iodine directly changes into vapour on heating.
2) Ammonium Chloride changes to vapour on heating.
3) Naphthalene also changes to vapour on heating.

◆ We sweat more on dry day because more the dryness of the atmosphere, more is the evaporation which results in sweating.

◆ Because of the evaporation from the surface of the glass containing ice cold water.

◆ a] 25 K = 25-273 = -248℃

b] 373 K = 373-273 = 100℃

1] Both liquids and solids have definite shape.
2] Both liquids and solids consists of molecules.
