what happens when a living cell is kept in a hypertonic solution

Heprtonic condition is achieved when water concentration is low and solute conc. is higher, so when a plant cell is kept in a hypertonic solution it will shrink as the water molecules will move outside thecell through the semipermeable membrane in order to attain equilibrium.
