When a metal above hydrogen in the reactivity series reacts with dilute acid, it displaces the hydrogen from that acid and takes it's place.
The hydrogen gas evolves and makes it way out of the container.
Example: Sulfuric acid + Zinc = ZincSulphate + Hydrogen.
(H2So4) + (Zn) >>>> (ZnSo4) + (H2) gas
