What happens when ammonium oxidised in presence of catalyst

Answer:

Ammonia burns on the catalyst to form a gaseous mixture containing about 9 per cent nitric oxide. The highly exothermic reaction that takes place between ammonia and oxygen maintains the required temperature on the gauze.
