benzene can be converted into benzoic acid by converting benzene into toluene by friedel craft reaction in the presence of anhydrous AlCl3 which will proceed by electrophilic aromatic substitution. Then toluene can be converted into benzoic acid by adding KMnO4-KOH(oxidation).
