Initially it turns milky due to formation of calcium carbonate, a white precipitate. But later on, it becomes colourless and calcium bicarbonate forms, which is soluble.

Answer:

Explanation:

When excess of CO2 is passed through this

solution, the milkiness disappears. This is due to the

formation of calcium bicarbonate which is colorless and

soluble in water.

(milkiness)CaCO3+H2O+(excess)CO2⟶(water soluble)

Ca(HCO3)2
