When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water it turns milky due to the formation of water insoluble precipitate CaCO3. Still if excess ofCO2 is passed it forms water soluble Calcium bicarbonate . Thus thesolution remains clear

When carbon dioxide is passed through lime water, it turns milky or turbid due to the formation of calcium carbonate which is insoluble in water. However if excess carbon dioxide is allowed to pass, the turbidity disappears due to the formation of calcium bicarbonate which is soluble in water.
