Cone cells are one of the three photo-receptor cells found in the retina of the mammalian cells. The cone cells are densely packed in the the fovea centralis of the retina and they are responsible for color perception.Absence of the cones will lead to loss of perception of color.

Cones are also are able to view process finer details of images than the other photo-receptor cells(rods and  photosensitive retinal ganglion cells) and process rapid changes of images.

Cone dystrophy is a condition in which there is loss of the cone cells of the eye. It usually presents with the following symptoms:

- loss of vision.
-sensitivity to bright lights
-poor color vision

This then become the most likely things to happen when cone cells are absent in the eye.
