Ammonia reacts with excess of chlorine to form NCl3 and HCl.

A yellow explosive liquid nitrogen trichloride is formed.

NH 3 +3Cl 2 →3HCl+NCl  3

If here ammonia is taken in excess then ammonium chloride is formed.
