· Glucose has a free aldehyde group in its structure therefore it reacts with Tollen's reagent to precipitate silver (Ag) which gets deposited on the walls of the reaction vessel. You get a silver mirror.
The silver mirror test is the reaction of a
sample with a solution containing silver-ammonia complex ions. When this reagent oxidizes the aldehyde, the silver ions are reduced to metallic silver, which forms a black precipitate, and if the test tube is clean, asilver mirror on the test tube.
