When going from left to right i.e. across the period in modern periodic table the following happens to trend:
1. Velency increases from 1 to 4 and decreases to 0.
2. Atomic size decreases as nuclear charge increases and tends to pull the electrons closer to the nucleus and reduces the size of the atom.
3. Metallic character decreases as the attraction between electrons and nucleus increases because of which the electrons become electronegative i.e. non metallic character increases.
