gypsum is calcium sulphate dihydrate on heating it is converted into

plaster of paris

which is calcium sulphate hemihydrate and it is used for mouldings, CaSO4.2H2O + heat = CaSO4.1/2 H2O or (CaSO4)2.2H2O
