The immediate reaction of sodium hydroxide with ferric sulphate solution gives an unstable solution containing high concentrations of the basic ions. When the ratio NaOH : Fe exceeds 0.5 : 1, a precipitate of 2Fe,O,,SO, is formed, precipitation being complete when the ratio is 2.5.: 1.
