When a mixture of methane andchlorine is exposed to ultraviolet light - typically sunlight - a substitutionreaction occurs and the organic product is chloromethane. However, the reaction doesn't stop there, and all the hydrogens in the methane can in turn be replaced by chlorine atoms.

hey mate

if methane(CH4) reacts with chlorine the it will replace its 1 hydrogen atom with chlorine
and form (CH3Cl) i.e. chloromethane.
