What happens when white phosphorus is heated with concentrated naoh solution?

White phosphorus reacts with aqueous sodium hydroxide to form phosphine and sodium hypophosphite.

This reaction takes place slowly.

P4 + 3NaOH + 3H2O → PH3 + 3NaH2PO2
