When we add carbondioxide to Lime water Ca(OH)2 it turns milky white due to the formation of white precipitate Calcium Carbonate CaCO3 (also known as lime stone when solid).

The reaction involved is:-
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 => CaCO3 + H2O
