What happens when you rub a copper rod with a cloth?

On rubbing a copper rod with cloth is becomes positively charged. It gets charged due to friction, therefore, it will start attracting small bits of paper as it acquires a small number of electrostatic charges.


However, it lasts only for a small period of time and soon the rod loses all its charge.
