With the cultivation of the indigo crops which were in high demand back in England, The East India Company was willing to pay any amount to the zamindars in order to make the peasants do the cultivation of that one particular crop. Though we can't ignore the fact how they were being exploited but yet it increased a lot of job opportunities in the primary or agricultural sector during the colonial period.
