What hazardous materials have to be dealt with while disposing off electronic items. How would these materials effect the enviroment?

These gases for instance, lead and brominated flame retardents are harmful to the animals respiratory system and causes illness. When they are released into the soil they contaminate it and may be absorbed by plants which consumed cause complications.
