The sand should both heat and cool faster than the water. This is because water has a higher specific heat ca- pacity than sand – meaning that it takes a lot of heat, or energy, to raise the temperature of water one degree, whereas it takes comparatively little energy to change the temperature of sand by one degree.

Sand heats up quickly, and cools off quickly.

Water is slower to heat up, and retains heat longer.

Daytime, sand heats up quickly and heats the air above it. Warm air rises (less dense/ low pressure) Water is slower to heat up, the air over the water is cooler (more dense/ higher pressure) . Cool ocean air moves toward land to fill in the space created by the warm rising air over the sand. This is a sea breeze.

The opposite happens at night. Sand cools off quickly the cooler heavier land air rushes out to sea to fill in the space left by the warm air rising over the ocean.
