Answer:

Pressure = dgh

Where d = density

g = acceleration due to gravity

h = height of column

Height of water column= 5m

Density of water = 1 g/cm^3

Let Height of mercury column = h

Density of mercury = RD×density of water= 13.6×1 = 13.6 g/cm^3

They exert same pressure

Or 1×g×5 = 13.6×g×h

Or 5g = 13.6gh

Or h = 5g/13.6g

Or h = 0.368 m

Height of mercury required to exert same pressure is 0.368m
