A. With the death of Bahadur Shah II the Mughal dynasty came to an end. Nana Saheb the last Peshwa had taken an active part in the uprising and had fled to Nepal after the failure of uprise so the office of the Peshwar also came to an end thus ended two of the most formidable foes of the British; the Marathas and the Mughals.

The Revolt 1857 led to the ultimate end of Mughal Rule in India. It was actually after the death of Auranmgzeb, the Mughal empire started to decline. The Marathas and the East India company further weakened it. The Mughal rulers were nominal rulers in India now. The nominal rule of Mughals ended when last ruler Bahadhur Shah Zafar was exiled and his two sons killed by the British at the end of the 1857 uprising.
