Answer :

In 'The Ghat Of The Only World' by Amitav Ghosh, the poet Shahid Ali has been depicted as a dynamic and multi faceted personality and a sensitive person. He was born in the beautiful town of Srinagar and did his schooling in Delhi. He later migrated to America where he served as a scholar and teacher in many esteemed colleges and universities. He was a gifted teacher who earned the respect of his students. He was a connoisseur of good food, music and poetry. He enjoyed the company of poets and writers. Kashmir held a special place in his heart and he was greatly disturbed and hurt by the increasing violence in the state. Some of his finest writing is about the picturesque state of Kashmir. He was a secular man and did not consider one religion to be above others. He encouraged unity among the different religions.

He was a very courageous man who never got discouraged even in hard times. He was a fighter and even the terrible and dreadful disease of cancer could not break his strong spirit. He refused to be assisted by a wheelchair and continued walking on his feet even in hospital. He was quick-witted with a good sense of humor.
