The speed of any object does not convey the direction of the object in which it is moving. It only represents the quantative measure or magnitude of the movement of the object. Speed of any object can only be positive in nature.
And velocity conveys both the direction and the magnitude of the movement of the object. Velocity can be positive or negative according to the direction and sign convention.
