They inject a hormone called oxytocin which induces a chain of uterine muscle contraction events which results in parturition. The hormone is normally released by neurohypophysis of the pituitary in the Brain. The hormone is also called "birth hormone" and "milk ejection" hormone.
Normally Oxytocin is released into the bloodstream in response to stretching of the cervix and uterus during labor and with stimulation of the nipples from breastfeeding. They are injected to induce labor contractions of uterine muscles.
