ABHYAM-181” – WOMEN HELPLINEThe state of Gujarat has always been a leader in all aspects of innovation and initiation of public services. One of the excellent example of effective public services is “108” Emergency Response Service which has touched life of citizen of Gujarat.
Government of Gujarat is taking a unique initiative in form of “181 – Abhayam” Women Helpline for all women citizen of Gujarat. This will be in synchronization and complementary system with existing “1091 – Gujarat Police Helpline” and other women orientated services. For women empowerment and to support women in distress Government of Gujarat has launched 24X7 free women helpline, “181 - Abhayam”. “181” is a toll free number and accessible through any mobile or landline. This service has been working through the coordination of Women & Child Development Department, Home Department and GVK EMRI. Women Helpline Service established by leveraging existing resources of 108 Emergency Management Services under PPP framework between Government of Gujarat (Women & Child Development Department, Home Department) & GVK EMRI.
Initially 181 Abhayam Helpline has been functional in Ahmedabad and Surat Cities and Gandhinagar Districts. It provides information, Guidance and support to women in distress. Looking at its effectiveness the State Government has decided to expand the reach of the services in the entire State. The state wide services launched by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel on 8th March 2015 on the occasion of International Women’s Day at Gandhinagar with fleet of 45 spread across the State.
Objectives:
To provide 24X7 free counseling, guidance and information through centralized response centre.
To rescue in emergent situations like domestic or any type of violence to shift women to safe places.
Response to 100% calls through technology integration.
