40 divided by 1/2 plus 15 is 95.

Solution,

Mathematically the problem statement can be represented as-

⇒   40 ÷ 1/2 + 15

  • According to the DMAS rule that is division is given the first preference over addition or subtraction, we would first divide 40  by 1/2 then add 15 to the quotient.
  • Since we have to divide 40 which is an integer by 1/2 which is a fraction, we can proceed further like this,

        ⇒  40  ÷ 1/2

        ⇒  40 × 2/1 = 80

 Hence,

        ⇒  (40 ÷ 1/2) + 15

        ⇒  (80) + 15

         ⇒ 95.

Therefore, when 40 is divided by 1/2 and then 15 is added to it, the number obtained is 95.
