Chinook winds can affect many things in our world including agriculture, environment, society and more. Below I will be listing and explaining some of the ones I found interesting and worth mentioning.
General Effects:
· Rapid temperature changes can occur.
· Snow can melt or evaporate.
· Loss of moisture due to significant drops in humidity.
· Rivers & Lakes can lose Ice as fast as 2.5 Cm (1 In) every hour.
· Powerful, warm winds have the ability to carry sounds long distances.
Effects on Soil and Vegetation:
· Soil moisture will be lost, and the high winds can result in soil loss.
· Many trees, such as the white birch can not survive the rapid temperature changes.
· Trees may wake up and begin to photosynthesize, losing moisture & dehydrating. *This may result in red belt.
· Leaves may sprout only to be killed by the next frost.
