Convectional rainfall happens when the sun heats the water source to the point that water turns into vapor and rises. By the time it reaches the condensation level, the vapor is usually cooled enough to turn back into water and fall in the form of rain.

The sun heats the ground and warm air rises. As the air rises it cools and water vapour condenses to form clouds.
