A decomposition reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a single compound breaks down into 2 or more elements or new compounds.

Examples-due to heat

1) calcium carbonate decomposes in calcium oxide & carbon dioxide when heated.

2)When heated strongly potassium chlorate decomposes into potassium chlorite and oxygen.

Examples - Due to light

silver chloride decomposes into silver and chlorine .

hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and oxygen.

ex- due to electricity.

water decomposes into hydrogen and oxygen.

sodium chloride decomposes into sodium and chlorine.
