the elements or metals which are freely available, which does not react or not in the form of compound is known as free state. Here the atom is all alone and neutral. and the elements or metals which are not freely available, found with some other element as they are more reactive metals is known as combined state.

example - diamond , graphite and fullerene.

combined state :- materials are made up of carbon with other elements.

example - carbon dioxide, calcium carbonate, carbohydrate petroleum.
