A linear equation can either be in one variable, two variable or three variables  or more than three variables depending on the type of coordinate system chosen.

Equation in one variable or two variable represents a line in two coordinate system.

→ Equation in three variable represents a line in three dimensional coordinate system.

→ Equation having more than three variables will also represents also a line ,i.e equations having n dimensions i.e n variables will also represent a line in n dimensions.
