A Homologous Series is a group of organic chemical compounds, usually listed in order of increasing size, that have a similar structure (and hence also similar properties) and whose structures differ only by the number of CH2 units in the main carbon chain or by a mass of 14 g units.

A series of similarly constituted compound in which the member present have the same functional group and chemical properties and any two successive member in a particular series differ in their molecular formula by a ---CH2--unit, it is called a homologus series .
e.g.CH4, C2H6,C2H8, C4H10 are the member of alkane family..
