. (i) Manuscripts were documents or books written by hand.

(ii) They were not used widely because :

(a) They could not satisfy the ever increasing demand for books.

 (b) They were expensive as copying was an expensive, laborious and time consuming business.

(c) Manuscripts were fragile, awkward to handle and could not be carried around or read easily.

(d) Their circulation was limited.

OR

 (i) Indulekha was concerned the marriage practices of upper-caste Hindus in Kerala, especially the Nambuthiri Brahmins and the Nayars.

 (ii) It raised the issue of education and human values.

(iii) The novel also described that the new young generation wanted new laws regarding marriage and property.
