Definition of mean proportional. :geometric mean; especially :the square root (such as x) of the product of two numbers (such as a and b) when expressed as the means of a proportion (such as a/x = x/b)

Consider three numbers a, b and c, which are in continued proportion (a:b::b:c). In this situation, b is called the geometric mean or mean proportion between a and c

TO FIND THE MEAN PROPORTION BETWEEN 6 AND 24
Let x be the mean proportion between 6 and 24.
Now,
6:x::x:24
We know that Product of Means = Product of Extremes
x*x = 6*24
x^{2} = 144
⇒  \sqrt{x^{2}} =  \sqrt{144}  [Square rooting both sides. ]
x = 12
∴ 12 is the mean proportion between 6 and 24.
The way to find out the mean proportion is already illustrated here.

I hope this may help you.
