Living organisms around us which we normally cannot see. These are called microorganisms or microbes.

Microorganisms are classified into four major groups. These groups are :-

⏺Bacteria

⏺fungi

⏺protozoa

⏺Virus

⏺algae

❄ Lactobacillus wireless promotes the formation of curd. It multiplies in milk and converts it into curd.


❄ Bacteria are also involved in making of cheese, pickles and many other food items.

❄ Yeast is used for commercial production of alcohol and wine.


❄ A number of antibiotics are being produced from bacteria and fungi.


❄ Streptom, tetracycline and erythromyclin are some of the commonly know antibiotics which are made from fungi and bacteria.


❄ Vaccines are made on a large scale from microorganisms to protect human and other animal from survival disease.


❄ Some bacteria and blue green algae are able to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere to enrich soil with nitrogen and increase its fertility.


❄ The microorganism decompose dead organic waste of plant and animal converting them into simple substance.


❄ Microorganism can be used to degrade the harmful and smelly substance and clean by the environment.

❄ Some of the harmful microorganism cause disease in human beings, plants and animals as disease causing microorganism are called pathogens.


❄ Microorganism disease that can spread from the infected person to a healthy person through air water food or physical contact are called communicable disease. Example of communicable disease are cholera, common cold, chicken pox, and tuberculosis.


❄ Some microorganism cause disease in plants like wheat, rice, potato, sugar cane, Orange, Apple etc.


❄ Microorganisms that grows on our food sometimes produce toxic substance. These make the food poisonous causing serious illness and even death.
