Military Coup is an attempt by the armed force men to overthrow the government. Generally to bring in Marshall law. 
However coup means "to blow off the state" or "destroy the state".

It consists of military leadership deciding to take executive and legislative powers in its own hands and channelising its machinery to deprive the executive of the same.The military coup in Chile was led by Augusto Pinochet.
