Motion

If a body is continuously changing its position with respect to a fixed point, then the body is said to be in motion.

Motion in 1-D

When motion of an object is confined to  a straight line only, then the motion of object is known as 1-D or One-Dimensional motion.

Equations for motions in 1-D

  • According to first equation of motion for constant acceleration,

\purple{\boxed{\bf{v=u+at}}}

  • According to second equation of motion for constant acceleration,

\orange{\boxed{\bf{s=ut+\dfrac{1}{2}at^{2}}}}

  • According to third equation of motion for constant acceleration,

\pink{\boxed{\bf{v^{2}-u^{2}=2as}}}

where,

v is final velocity

u is initial velocity

a is acceleration

s is displacement

t is time taken

Motion in 2-D

When motion of an object is confined to a plane, then the motion of object is called 2-D or two dimensional motion.

Additional Information

Some terms related to motion

Speed

The distance covered by moving body in unit time is called speed of the body.

\red{\boxed{\bf{Speed=\frac{Distance}{Time}}}}

Average Speed

Average speed is defined as the ratio of total distance covered and total time taken.

\green{\boxed{\bf{Speed=\frac{Total\ Distance\ covered}{Total\ Time\ Taken}}}}

Velocity

The change in position or displacement divided by the time interval is called velocity.

Acceleration

The rate of change of velocity is called acceleration.

Momentum

The product of mass and velocity of body at given time is called the momentum of body at that time.
