the cells of nervous system, which controls all types of body
activities. The nerve cells are specialized cells, which transmits
message from one part to another part of the body. All cellular
organisms have evolved a coordinating system by which messages can be
received and transmitted very rapidly to organs, enabling them to
respond to an environmental change. The system which is responsible for
this process is called as nervous system. The functional units of
nervous system are nerve cell.

A nerve cell or neuron is a cell that carries the electrical impulses from one cell to another.
Explanation:
- The neurons are the functional and structural units of the nervous system.
- The neurons pass information from one cell to another in the form of electrical impulses.
- The neuron is made up of cell body, axon and dendrites.
- The dendrites and axons are the nerve fibers.
- The neurons are supported by the glial cells and astrocytes.
- There are around 16 billion neurons in human brain.
- The gaps between the neurons are called as synapse through which chemical and electrical information can pass through.
