parliament is the assembly of elected representatives. it refers to the legislative body of a government who make laws for the country.

in India, the two houses of the parliament are :-

◻ LOK SABHA (lower house)

◼ RAJYA SABHA (upper house)

some powers and functions of parliament :-

⏺it has legislative powers. parliament can make laws on all subjects listed in the union list.

⏹annual budget of the central government is controlled by parliament. it can't be passed without parliament's approval.

⏺ if president proclaimed of emergency, then first it must be approved by the parliament.

⏹ parliament elects the president, vise president, speaker of Lok Sabha and members of rajya Sabha.

⏺ parliament can also remove president, vise president, judges of supreme Court and high court.

⏹ parliament may ask prime Minister to resign by a vote called "no confidence motion" and can ask questions to the ministers.

one more thing for extra knowledge, Lok Sabha has more power as compared to rajya Sabha since Lok Sabha consists more members.
