A periscope is an optical instrument that uses a system of prisms, lenses or mirrors to reflect images through a tube. ... This simple periscope uses only flat mirrors as compared to the periscopes used on submarines, which are usually a complex optical system using both lenses and mirrors.

The periscope is used in the submarines to see what is going on the water surface, It was used for observation purposes in the trenches during World War I, It is used in some gun turrets and it is used in armed vehicles.

shrutitaragi428: I also want to add my answer so,
shrutitaragi428: In simple way, periscope is just a long tube with a mirror at each end. The mirrors are fitted into each end of the tube at an angle of exactly 45 degree so that they face each other then the light bounces down to the bottom mirror.
shrutitaragi428: It is mostly used in a tanks and some submariens.

In simple way , periscope is just a long tube with a mirror at each end . The mirror are fitted into each end of the tube at an angle of exactly 45 degree so that they faces each other then the light or an outside image bounces down to the bottom mirror and due to this we can see easily the outside image.

It is mostly used in a tanks and submarines.

I hope this will be helpful for you.....✌
