1. A ratio involving 2 quantities can be written as fraction a:b = a/b
2. But ratio involving 3 quantities cannot be written as a fraction. a:b:c

PROPORTION:

• A ratio can be expressed as a fraction. Equivalent ratios are said to be in proportion.
• If a, b, c and d are in proportion, then a:b::c:d. a & d are the extremes whereas b & c are means.
• When a, b, c and d are in proportion, then product of extremes = product of means.
