Hey mate,

Shaka Buku (pronounced Shocka Bookoo) takes its name from a Japanese Buddhist term which loosely translates as the goal of their music: “To remove suffering and bring happiness to all people by awakening them to their inherent greatness.”

Thanks for asking.

Shakubuku "break and subdue" is a term that originates in the Chinese version of Śrīmālādevī Siṃhanāda Sūtra. Although often associated with the teachings of Nichiren, the term appears often in the SAT Daizokyo and the works of the Chinese Tiantai patriarachs Zhiyi and Zhanran.
