The simplest Form of describing an action is called Simple predicate. In the sentence, The children are sleeping, "are sleeping" is a simple predicate.

The word or group of words saying something about the subject is called the predicate.it must contain a verb. Eg: The sun rises in the east. In the above sentence the first part is The sun' about which something is said. The second part 'rises in the east ' tells something about the sun.
