Acid-Base Indicator is a Chemical Substance or determinant which determines whether a compound/element/mixture is acidic in nature or it is basic.

  • ACIDS, BASES AND SALTS

  • Acid are the substances which gives H⁺ (Hydrogen/Hydronium Ion) ion while they disassociate in water.

They are corrosive as well as sour in taste. They turns Blue Litmus Red.

*Litmus is also an indicator obtained from Lichens.

pH of such substance lies in [1,7)

  • Base are the Substances which gives OH⁻ (Hydroxide) ion while it disassociate in water.

These are also corrosive and bitter in taste which turns red litmus to blue.

pH of such substance lies between (7,14]

  • Salts are the substances which are formed due to the reaction between an acid and a base known as Neutralisation reaction.
