What is a taxon? Illustrate the taxonomical hierarchy with a suitable example?

TAXON- taxon is a group or a rank. such as:family, class,..etc
TAXONOMICAL HIERARCHY WITH EXAMPLES--
 1)KINGDOM-kingdom plantae, kingdom animalia
 2)PHYLUM--fishes, amphibians, birds
 3)CLASS--order primate comprising monkey , gorilla and gibbon is placed in class mammalia.
 4) ORDER--plant families like solanaceae, convolvulaceae 
 5)FAMILY--genus Panthera , comprising lion,leopard is put along with genus, felis(cats) in family
 6)GENUS--potato and brinjal are two different species but both belongs to the genus Solonace
 7) SPECIES -- human beings (homo sapiens) ...... :)
