The wave in which the particles of medium vibrate abouttheir mean positions
, in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propogation of the wave, is called the tansverse wave.
The transverse wave is composed of crest and trough.
The position of maximum upward displacement is called crest, while the position of maximum downward displacement is called trough. They keep on alternating in time at a position.
Transverse wave can only be produced in SOLIDS and Surface of the LIQUIDS. They can NOT be produced inside liquid or in gases.
