There is no way to prevent this disaster or to be careful from it.

There are still many volcanoes in this world which are erupted now also. Many volcanoes are still present in Japan which are erupted now also and cause damage to the people staying nearby to it. Not only on earth but on other planets still the volcanoes are erupted.
